Smashing Lebanon Success

Earlier this year Lebanon elected a large group of Hezbollah members to their parliment. According to Yaliban.com this is how Lebanon's parliment is currently configured:
  • General Aoun and his allies: 21 members
  • Hezbollah and Berri alliance: 35
  • Hariri, Jumblatt, Geagea & allies: 72 Total no. of members: 128

The Hezbollah is listed as a terrorist group according to the U.S. Government. Despite their assurances in March of 2006 that they would not participate in violence against Israel, the Hezbollah crossed the border into Isreal at the beginning of July and kidnapped two Israeli soldiers, killed eight more, and killed three Lebanese. The action by Lebanon triggered an attack by Israel that continues today.

Questions to Ponder

  • Do you think that Israel is justified in using the force it has?

  • The Hezbollah decline to acknowledge the legal state of Isreal. Will they continue to attack Israel based on this idea?
  • Was Condelleza Rice ineffectual as a toll of peace in the Middle East?

  • What will it take to solve the Middle East crisis.
