The Nucleic Acid Database - Musical Atlas

The Nucleic Acid Database has been creating musical compositions that give a unique look at the structure of DNA. It's fascinating to listen to these musical algorithms and realize that you're hearing the structure of a particular DNA sequence.

To create these musical pieces, a correlation was created between musical notes and each of the bases. Then two types of musical compositions were created as they explain below:

"For each structure, there is a "Plain Melody," which follows a simple algorithm to highlight the structure's sequence, and a "Composition," which follows a more complicated algorithm that features the base pairing of the structure."

In Composition 2 more extensive musical structures were created by Joanna de la Cruz in an attempt to muscially visualize the structures and sequences in DNA.

This is a fascinating look at DNA through a completely unexpected perspective.
