Mumbai Terrorist Attacks

On Thursday, November 27, 2008, as people throughout the United States were giving thanks, brutal terrorist attacks were carried out in the heavily tourist area of Mumbai, India, the home of the Taj Mahal. The Deccan Mujahideen has taken responsibility for the attacks, and "some experts said they are linked to the Indian Mujahideen, an Islamist terror group that has claimed responsibility for several recent attacks against civilians in India," according to the VOANews.


Questions to Ponder

  • Who are the Deccan Mujahideen?

  • Why have militant Islamic forces been the source of so much violence in the past decade?

  • Is there a connection between the attacks on September 11 in the US, the Madrid train bombings of March 11, 2004, the July 5, 2005 attacks in London, and the recent attacks in Mumbai?
