A bit about the artist . . .
This particular page is devoted to Gustav Mahler. He was born in Kaliste, Bohemia on July 7, 1860. He died in Vienna on May 18, 1911. An unhappy love affair with a singer led to the composition of his first masterpiece, the song cycle Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. Mahler became the first conductor at the Stadttheater in Hamburg.
