Dismuke's Virtual Talking Machine is a wonderful collection of recordings from the early 1900s that have been posted in Real Audio format. Each of the recordings is originally from an original 78 rpm record.
According to the site author, there "are over 125 vintage jazz, dance band, swing and vocal recordings from the "Roaring '20s through the Great Depression and the dawn of World War II, as well as more than 60 recordings from the acoustical (pre microphone) era - 1900 - 1925, featuring a wide variety of musical styles ranging from ragtime to opera, early jazz to marching bands, light classical to World War I patriotic tunes."
All of the RealAudio files have also been made available for downloading, so that you can study and enjoy the music at your leisure.
