DEVELOP is a NASA program that brings science into local communities. Student teams around the country participate in science projects using prototype applications of NASA Earth science data. The program is year round and is open to students from high school through graduate school. Why not teach students science through programs that will actually make a difference in our world?
Students lead projects in their communities with the help of NASA advisors. The projects are developed based on issues of concern at the community, county, or state level. Students partner with these communities to generate the best datasets possible. Once the data is collected the results are presented in computer-generated visualizations. Projects have included Nevada invasive species research, fire risk assessment in Oregon, and hurricaine prediction.
The projects cover all 12 NASA applications of national priority: agricultural efficiency, air quality, aviation safety, carbon management, coastal management, disaster management, ecological forecasting, energy management, homeland security, invasive species, public health and water management.
This program is highly recommended for students interested in science, technology, and government policy.
