Early Imperial China is an online learning resource for students aged 11 - 14. Topics covered include: dynasties, the Great Wall of China, the Silk Road, Confucianism, Daoism, Buddhism, defence, arts and crafts. The site also provides a 'Staff Room' with lesson plans and classroom activities for teachers.
Hidden within a museum's student room is a wealth of visual and textual resources about early Imperial China. By clicking on the interactive elements in the room, children can build up their knowledge of early Imperial China. Types of resources include: museum objects, original sources, original prints and drawings, 3D models and games.
Note: The Early Imperial China website is part of the Ancient Civilizations series of websites which can be accessed via www.ancientcivilizations.co.uk
We especially like the slide shows (click on the screen at the top of the room), and the sorting games for tea, rice, ceramics, etc (click on the flat file on the right). Don't forget to check if your answers are correct, if you play the games. The "Am I right?" button is in the upper left corner, and it's not very noticeable. Have fun exploring this unique reference room on China. There is an enormous amount to see. Make sure that you click around a lot to find everything this site has to offer.
