Even if you didn’t watch the Super Bowl on Sunday February 1, 2004, by now you’ve seen the countless replays of the halftime show in which Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake danced prerogatively around on stage and ended their number with the promised “shocker.”

Did you watch the entire football game?

Did you watch the halftime show?

If so, what was your reaction to the entire 4 and 1/2 hour event?

Explain why the halftime entertainment was or was not acceptable.

Was the ending with Janet and Justin the only eyebrow raiser during the entire musical production?

What about Nelly, P. Diddy, Kid Rock, and the numerous dancers parading around?

What were some of the most memorable lyrics from the halftime songs?

What do they suggest in your opinion as far as influencing the listeners?

Although Janet and Justin have extended apologies along with CBS and MTV, does the FCC have a right to investigate the events surrounding the split-second flash of skin?

Who do you think really knew about the ending before it happened?

Do you believe the fact that there was supposed to be a red piece of lace showing instead of skin?

Do the organizers of halftime shows instigate this behavior by letting such artists perform during a predominantly family-viewed program?

Is the fabric of society weakening as this cartoon suggests? Why or why not?

Do you consider yourself to have morals? How about your friends?

What kind of morals do you think the artists that performed on the halftime show have?

What does their behavior suggest to you?

Does the fact that Janet Jackson has a new album due out this Spring make you think this was a set up?

Do you think that it’s sad that everyone is talking about the halftime show and not about what a great game the Super Bowl was?

Sites to See

CBS
The station that aired Super Bowl XXXVIII was the recipient of numerous complaints regarding the halftime show and its shocking finale.

FCC
The Federal Communications Commission opened an investigation and chairman Powell called the Super Bowl Halftime Show a “classless, crass, deplorable stunt.”

MTV
Music Television reached new heights during the beginning of February with the focus of the Super Bowl not on the game, but on the performers of the halftime show produced by MTV.
