Johannes Brahms was born in Hamburg on May 7, 1833. He died in Vienna on April 3, 1897. Brahms studied piano from age seven, and theory and composition from age thirteen. Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky was born in Kamsko-Votkinsk on May 7, 1840. He died in St. Petersburg on November 6, 1893. Tchaikovsky was the first major composer to pay serious attention to ballet music.
