On Tuesday, January 20, 2009, Barack Obama took his oath of office as President of the United States, going down in the history books as the first Black President of the United States of America. His entry into the office of President is being greeted with great hope by citizens of the United States, regardless of their race.
The Presidential Inauguration of Barack Obama
Questions to Ponder
- The US Senate has labeled this, 56th Presidential Inauguration, as "A New Birth of Freedom." What does that term mean to you?
- How do you think having a President of African American descent will effect young students in the US?
- President Obama won the presidential election largely by mobilizing young adult voters into action. How is this similar to the election of President John F. Kennedy?
- Does this election have special meaning to you personally? If so, how?
