Bryn Christopher- The Quest
By Cynthia Kirkeby
Sep 1, 2008, 9:29pm

The next time your parents give you a hard time about your cell phone, maybe you should play them The Quest by Bryn Christopher. This great song was, you guessed it, written on his cell phone! Just tell them that a song from "Grey's Anatomy" was written on a cell phone, and you might be composing the next hit tune.

According to Interscope,
"Bryn was born to sing, and baby this boy’s got soul in his blood! He’s a naturally charismatic performer with a voice like a runaway freight train. His talent got him the sought-after support slot on Amy Winehouse’s tour at the end of last year while he was still totally unknown, but the Bryn’s secret is out now.

Bryn got his musical start in the theater, which is where he immersed himself as an early teen. But a more the pivotal moment in his musical education came when Bryn and some school friends attended a play and heard “Try A Little Tenderness” sung on the backing track. "I was shouting out to my friends during the play," he recalls. "I was like, ‘This guy is amazing! Who is it?' I'd never heard anyone sing like that. And someone told me it was Otis Redding." A crash-course in Redding's music (along with the music of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder) turned Bryn's musical life upside down: suddenly, he knew that he wanted to make music.

Bryn teamed up with co-writer/producer Jarrad Rogers (SugaRush Beat Company) and production supremos Midi Mafia (Jennifer Lopez, Talib Kweli, Nelly) to make his debut album, My World, which will be released January 13, 2009 in the United States.. Midi Mafia recently secured the exclusive rights to use samples from the infamous Stax Records catalogue and have used some of these for the first time ever on Bryn’s album, making it a rare gem indeed. The samples they used include Eddie Floyd’s ‘Big Bird’, ‘Going Home’ by Prince Conley and ‘Hot Dog’ by The Four Shells. Midi Mafia felt Bryn would be great to be the first artist to sing over these samples because his voice and delivery is so reminiscent of that era."
