The “Nickels for Nails” youth fundraising program will run October 1 through 19, 2007. In October, when volunteers for Habitat for Humanity’s Jimmy Carter Work Project 2007 begin construction and rehabilitation on 100 homes in Los Angeles, the area’s youth will be able to see how donating their extra nickels can make a difference for one deserving family in the community.
Teachers who sign up will receive contribution containers for their classrooms and will be able to download curriculum plans to educate their students about this growing problem facing Los Angelenos and how everyone can help in the cause. As an added incentive for schools to participate, the class that raises the most money will be honored during the JCWP festivities this October and will be eligible for prizes.
It's easy to help. You can either:
- Place collection bins in classrooms or
- Collect spare change
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are nearly three million young people under the age of 18 in Los Angeles County alone, and they CAN make a difference. Los Angeles is one of the most overcrowded metropolitan areas in the United States and one of the least affordable. Almost 90 percent of Los Angeles County’s residents cannot afford a median-priced home. With your help, this reality will be changed for some families in the LA area.
Be sure to sign up for the Nickels for Nails Program today! or speak to your teacher about participating in the program as a classroom project.
