Captain America has a unique place in comic book history. He was created during the Golden Age of Comics and is one of the top selling comic book characters of all time.

Born just prior to the Second World War, Captain America was a manifestation of the hopes of the American people, of the patriotism that sustained the nation. When the war ended, Captain America's popularity lapsed and for awhile we lost the superhero all together. However, he returned in the 1960s as a reminder of simpler times, and he has remainder a part of comics since then.

Since the events of September 11, 2001 he once again has a purpose. He stands as a symbol of the American Soldier. Not invincible, merely stronger, braver, and more committed and intelligent: a force to be reckoned with.
