On December 17, 2003, we will be celebrating the centennial anniversary of the Wright brother first powered flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The US Air Force has created this excellent Math In Flight education package to help celebrate the event.

In this package your students will learn about calculating the center of gravity of an object, atmospheric pressure, time zones calculations, directional headings, slope of descent when landing a plane, the effect of headwinds and tailwinds on speed, and the effect of crosswinds on directional headings. This is a fascinating exploration of math and flight. Enjoy!

Have additional fun with these cool posters that you can download, print, and hang in your classroom. Click on the image to download the poster. (PDF file - Adobe Acrobat Required)
