The History of Jim Crow

www.jimcrowhistory.org

“The History of Jim Crow is an educator's site that presents teachers with new historical resources and teaching ideas on one of the most shameful periods in American history, an era of segregation, violence, and disfranchisement of African Americans that tore at the very fabric of the nation.”

This site is broken down into four main sections:

The Television section is an overview of the four-part television series which explores the dramatic story of the African-American struggle for freedom during times of segregation.

The History section includes a group of five themed essays focusing on creating, surviving, resisting, escaping, and transcending Jim Crow oppression and discrimination.

The Geography section has a map that presents an extensive survey of those laws designated to disfranchise African Americans and segregate them from whites in the schools and public places of the American South.

The American Literature section combines history with literature to create more meaningful learning experiences for students. You will find numerous lesson plans available in PDF format.

*Note* Want to contribute your own lesson plan(s) on this subject for pay? There are options available at this site for doing just that!
