Acoma Pueblo, known as Sky City, is located 365 feet above the surrounding area. According to the Acoma people, this city is the oldest continually inhabited village in the United States. It was almost destroyed in 1598 by the Spanish, but it managed to survive what many other Native Americans did not. The San Esteban del Rey Mission was build as a gesture of peace in 1640 under the watchful eye of Friar Juan Ramirez. This city is also known for its amazing pottery.
