The Nevada Humanities organization, the U.S. Department of Education and the State of Nevada have joined together to start the Online Nevada Encyclopedia, a repository for various articles covering the history, arts, and natural resources of the state of Nevada. The site is broken down into ten general categories ranging from the History of Nevada to Gaming and Tourism to Nuclear Nevada and more.

Visiting each of the categories reveals additional subcategories full of articles on the subjects. Some categories are more fleshed out than others. Whereas Visual Arts and Authors each have quite a few articles in The Arts, Poets and Television only have 2 or 3 articles available, but what is there is well written and interesting snips of Nevada history and resources.

In each section there is a media gallery with images related to the main categories. The Arts gallery has photos of the stars of Bonanza, various buildings throughout the state, a few illustrations, and even a photo of the Burning Man event albeit not a very representational one. The Community and Society Media Gallery has more historical buildings and photos of various socialites from the past. Of note are a few VR panoramic photos of the Makay Mansion and a few other select locations, such as the Ward Charcoal Ovens shown below. Although the image galleries are somewhat sparse, the images help to bring the character of the area into focus.

This is a great place to start researching information on the state of Nevada. It is also an excellent place to find data on famous people from the state of Nevada, which tends to be somewhat elusive information.
