Each year the Mesa Verde Country® Indian Arts and Culture Festival celebrates the archaeology and Native American
culture of the Southwest. Festival highlights include a world-class juried Indian Art Market, Indian Dances, Navajo rug auction, special archaeological tours and exhibits.
Jeanette Katoney is the 2007 featured artist. She is of Navajo decent. The themes of her paintings frequently deal with the relationship between ancient and modern times. She works in bold colors and mixed media, including oil paints, pastels, and prismacolor pencils. Her painting entitled "Cloud, Rainbow and Corn" is the special raffle award this year. "The cloud, rainbow and corn are symbols that represent the relationship of the cloud's light, the rainbow's protection and strength, and the corn's fertility and life. With a prayer, the corn pollen brings together these elements for blessings."
