The Arts Festival is an inspiring blend of all the arts from music to food and all the crafts, drawings and paintings you could ever imagine! Musical and culinary attractions are included in this event. The Arts Festival was founded in 1978 by the South Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce, the Central Art Association, Women of the South, and the Oklahoma City Community College with the main purpose of displaying the skill of Oklahoma’s finest artists, craftsmiths, and performing artists. However, it has now broadened to accept art from across America, including California, Nebraska, and Missouri. More than anything, it is a wonderful way to spend a weekend, as it has entertainment for everyone.

The best part about the whole festival is definitely the art. A wide range of art is accepted, including pottery, sculptures, paintings photography, glasswork, jewelry, woodwork, and several other handmade crafts. A few of the artists that sell their wares stand out a bit more for their unique styles. The majority of the artists are painters or sketchers, but there are still several sculptors, woodworkers, and jewelers to balance them out. Prices on the merchandise vary depending on the artist. Some goods are low cost, but others can become expensive.

Another attraction at the festival is the children’s tent, in which children may entertain themselves with a fully hands-on, creative experience. For only $1.00, children can play in a giant sandbox, create their own small mosaics and murals, and string beaded necklaces and bracelets. Similar to the children’s tent is the pottery tent just next to it, where you may paint your own vase or pot. Prices begin at $3.00 and increase depending on the size of the vase or pot you choose to paint, the larger sizes costing the most.

The food is an appetizing blend of cultural culinary flavors, and finding your way to the food you want isn’t hard at all. There are signs posted to direct you to the flavor you’re looking for. Among the food, recipes from Mexico, Germany, and Greece can be found. Good old American originals such as foot long hot dogs are, of course, also available, so there’s something for everyone! Even your sweet tooth can be appeased with a little ice cream, so save room for dessert.

Many bands and singers have performed live on the stage at the Arts Festival, such as the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Ty England, and Shenandoah. Groups from as far as Israel have performed here! It is a wonderful way to publicize, because hundreds of thousands to millions of people come to the festival each year, and you never know who will like your performance enough to pay to hear more of it.

The Arts Festival is, in total, a delightful blend of culture, imagination, cooking, and performance. It is pure creative fun, entertainment, and happiness, compiled into one festival. All in all, it is a mirror of not only the heart of Oklahoman culture, as intended, but American culture as well.
