State Bird of Washington
In 1928, school children chose the Meadowlark as the state bird. In 1931, the Washington Federation of Women's Clubs chose the Goldfinch. The legislature decided to let the kids choose in 1951, and they voted for the Goldfinch, which the Legislature made official shortly thereafter.
