The watermelon was designated the Oklahoma State Vegetable in April 2007, despite the fact that the watermelon is actually a fruit. The state legislature backed its designation of the watermelon as a vegetable, stating,"it's a member of the cucumber family," according to Associated Content. The only problem now is that the cucumber is also designated as a fruit by most dictionaries.
