Who Invented All Those Back to School Items?

As you are picking up all of your back to school supplies, we thought you might like to know who invented them. Check out this handy list of back to school trivia from freepatentsonline:
  1. Pocket Calculator: Established: October 1968: Patent Holder: Yukihiro Yoshida with Sharp
Number crunching goes portable and forces administration to cancel the abacus orders.

  2. Ballpoint Pen: Established: December 1938: Patent Holder: Lazlo and George Biro
Since these Hungarian brothers put a stop to leaky pens (not to say there isn’t still the occasional burst of ink in your pocket!) students can now write their notes much easier.

  3. Plastic Binding: Established: January 5 1933: Patent Holder: R.M.L Douvry
Thank goodness for this one, otherwise we’d all be carrying the hundreds of loose sheets in a box rather than a convenient binder.

  4. Xerox Machine: Established April 1939: Patent Holder: Chester Carlson
This saves time for both students and teachers- professors were given the opportunity of mass producing their pop quizzes and students could limit their book load after library sessions.

  5. Dry Erase Marker: Established October 14 1975: Patent Holder: Oiso Tomatsu, Miyajima, et al; The Pilot Pen Company Ltd.
Dry erase markers meant not just dust-free shirts for teachers, but no more student nightmares of nails on a chalkboard!
