Pony Crazy is a Reading with Help, Stage 2 book for beginning readers by Catherine Hapka. The story centers around Meg, a city dwelling little girl who moves to the country. Since she loves horses, this is like a dream come true. Meg makes new friends easily, and they share their love for horses. Meg's mom suggests that they create their own scouting program centered around horses, and the Pony Scouts were born.

The story line is simple, but appealing. The language is a little more complex than a completely beginning reader, which is appropriate since this is a stage 2 chapter reader. Pony Crazy is aimed strictly at girls, since it lacks a male character, and this appears to be the first in the Pony Scouts series.

Where this chapter book really stands out, is in the adorable illustrations. Anne Kennedy has the ability to create a scene for a story that is simple, but with enough details to keep the eye busy. Her characters are adorable and I find myself looking back over the illustrations smiling as I go. They are the perfect little illustrations for a chapter book that kids will want to read over and over again.
