That's Not in My Science Book - Review

that's not in my science book by author Kate Kelly, is one of those fun, quirky books that are a delight to page through. Whether it's read sequentially through from the front cover to the back, or it's picked up for a random chapter here and there (my personal favorite). The book never failed to entice and enlighten me with fascinating scientific facts and issues.
Granted, I am a self-avowed nerd, who loves quirky science books. But I feel that anyone who has even a passing interest in science will find something that intrigues them in Kate Kelly's book.
I actually think the author did herself a disservice when she subtitled it "a compilation of little known facts." The subtitle give the impression that the information included in the book is somehow trivial facts of little consequence, when in fact the book tackles some major issues like: atomic theory, creationism and intelligent design, the avian flu and earthquakes.
Not quite bite-sized chapters, give enough information to tantalize the mind and tease you into perhaps looking up more on the subject. Controversial issues are mentioned briefly and enough information is given to help direct you towards further research, if so desired.
The layout of the book is a pleasure. At times I have to wonder if good book design has all but vanished in todays quick printing world, but this book proves otherwise. It's well laid out and a pleasure to browse. Occasional black and white illustrations and photos help break up the text and illuminate Kate's enlighting text.
I've thoroughly enjoyed exploring the issues in Kate' book and I highly recommend it to anyone else who enjoys the sciences. This is a wonderful book to grab when you can only read for a few minutes at a time. You'll definitely learn something new each time you pick it up!
