A Kid's Guide to Giving was written by a teenager (age 14), Freddi Zeiler, who felt that kids should know more about how to give back to the community. At the same time, she was aware that it is difficult to know whether a non-profit group is respectable or not. So, what is a kid to do?
Ms Zeiler decided the best solution was to put together a book which leads kids through being a good philanthropist. With her help, kids can find out about over 100 charities that are kid friendly, and how to help.
Her advice to would-be-givers falls into four basic steps:
Think about which causes mean most to you. Everyone has causes that are close to their heart for various reasons. Whether it's because it effects someone you know, like a breast cancer surviver, or because they do great work related to an interest you have, such as pets; there are wonderful organizations doing great work in many areas.
Search through her list for a qualified organization that matches your interest. Her list of over 100 organizations that have been prescreened, makes choosing a certified organization easy.
Choose how you will help. Will you donate money, your time, items they need, or will you help organize a special fundraising event?
Make a Favorite Charities List The list will help you manage your available time, and let you share your philanthropic interests with your friends and family.
