Background: This movie is based on the popular childrens book The Polar Express written by Chris Van Allsburg. The book was the Caldecott Medal Winner in 1986 and five million copies have been sold worldwide. It was also a New York Times Best Illustrated Book and a New York Times Bestseller. Its a wonder it took so long for The Polar Express to become a movie! This enchanting story of a boy who listened closely for Santas sleigh bells on Christmas Eve, brings the magic so many of us remember from the book onto the big screen. Instead of the bells the boy hears a train and once he boards the big iron horse, hes on his way to the North Pole! There a celebration awaits him as the first Christmas gift is given and he finds himself the recipient. He can choose anything he likes and his wish is a sleigh bell from Santas own sleigh. He tucks the treasure into his pocket only to discover later that it has fallen through a hole in the fabric. Youll either have to read the book or see the movie to find out how it ends!
