Paris, Je t’aime - POV Review

Paris, Je t’aime brings together some of the world’s greatest auteurs including Alfonso Cuaron, the Coen brothers, and Alexander Payne. Each of the 21 filmmakers paints a small story set Paris, and explores a different aspect of love.
One might suspect that with so many different visionary forces the film would appear as schizophrenic in tone as the recent Tarantino/Rodriquez Grindhouse; however, the tone of Paris, Je t’aime stays amazingly consistent, and shifts from story to story with surprising ease. Although some might have trouble swallowing the idea of sitting through 110 minutes of short films, Paris, Je t’aime takes shape as each story is added to the collection, and the final mix is a must see for any true lover of cinema.

In recent years, the short film seems to have become a medium left solely to college students and obscure awards programs. The general population is missing out on some unique and oftentimes incredible filmmaking. In this smaller format these leading filmmakers remind us of exactly why they are today’s crème d la’ crème.
