Lincoln Home National Historic Site - Illinois
When Lincoln left home of seventeen years in February of 1861 to serve as our nations President, it was with a heavy heart as America rolled towards a Civil War. Lincolns boyhood home has been restored to its original appearance and resides in the center of a four block historic neighborhood currently undergoing restoration. The goal of the National Park Service is to recreate the neighborhood much like it was in Lincolns day.
Over 350,000 people visited this historic location last year and if youd like to see it in person there are many websites (located on our resource page) that will help you plan your visit. If youd like to take a virtual tour of the home, neighborhood, Lincolns home throughout the years, special exhibits, or the Lincoln Depot, click here.
