The last mission founded in Southern California, Mission Santa Ines completed the mission chain that stretches 650 miles between San Diego and Sonoma. Located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley, with miles of fertile land, this mission quickly flourished.

Founded 1804
When Father Lasuen died, Father Tapis became the president of the California Missions. He founded Mission Santa Ines, near the Nojoqui Falls. At this mission, the Indians learned to make saddles and silver crafts.

Mission of California
The eighteenth mission was founded on September 17, 1804, by Father Lasuén. It was named for Louis IX, King of France (1215-70), who was canonized in 1290 for his crusades to Egypt and the Holy Land.
