Concepcion History
Mission La Purisima was founded December 8, 1787, at the site of the present town of Lompoc. In 25 years, the mission was extremely prosperous, with herds of livestock numbering in the thousands.

The Eleventh Mission
Mission La Purísima was located in a fertile valley many miles off the beaten path of the El Camino Real. Much of its prosperity is the result of the tireless work of Father Mariano Payeras who served at Mission La Purísima for nineteen years.

California Mission Concepcion
Father Lasuen founded the mission between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo named Mission La Purisima Concepcion. He sent Father Payeras to lead the new mission. Father Payeras spent the rest of his career there, eventually becoming the president of the missions when Father Lasuen died.

California Missions Foundation
The eleventh mission was founded on December 8, 1787, by Father Lasuén. It was named for “The Immaculate Conception of Mary the Most Pure.” The first buildings were created in 1788 and completed in 1791, but were destroyed in the 1812 earthquake.
