W2XBS was one of ten stations that was issued a commerical television license by the FCC on May 2, 1941. On July 1, 1941, it became the first TV station to begin commercial broadcasting under the new call letters WNBT. Everything before this date was considered experimental television. Since that time, WNBT has served New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, which is considered the nations #1 market. Their call letters have changed a few times over the years, but they are now known as WNBC. © Copyright 2004 by ClassBrain.com |
