The Fast of Ramadan
By Sarah Lane

During Ramadan Allah, or God, determines the course of the world for the following year. This is a time of worship and contemplation to strengthen family and community ties, and a time to focus on faith and spend less time concerned with everyday lives. The Fast of Ramadan, as it is called, lasts for exactly one month. Muslims spend hours at the Mosque praying and studying the Qur’an during this time period. Each day starts with a prayer and continues with fasting until the sun sets. At the end of the day fasting is broken with a prayer and a meal called the iftar. After the iftar Muslims spend time with family and friends.
