Mission Accomplished

May 1, 2003

President Bush addressed the nation from the flight deck of the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, late this afternoon and declared that America and her allies have prevailed in Iraq. In this historic speech, he promised that those who continue to elude the arm of justice will eventually fall. He heaped praise on our nation’s servicemen and women, and delivered a special message to Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and Army General Tommy Franks, for a job well done.

The President has declared an end to major combat in Iraq, but has stressed that we continue to hunt for the leaders of the old regime so we can hold them accountable for their crimes. Major combat might be over, but the war against terrorism continues still.
