Expedia Seat Pinpointer Caution

If you're booking your air travel on Expedia, please read this caution before using their Seat Pinpointer tool.

I recently booked a set of flights through Expedia, and when I went up to print out a copy of my itinerary, I noticed a tool called the Seat Pinpointer. It said that I could change my seats to better ones using their tool. Since we had seats rather far back in the plane, I decided to see if we could move up. I figured I could always cancel out of the tool if it looked like I'd lose my seats. I was wrong.

My seats showed as numbers 29D and 29E, and the Seat Pinpointer said there were two at 19 that would be better, so I checked the seats and moved us up. I did the same for our return trip. However, when Expedia updated my itinerary, it said that the airline wasn't assigning seats at this time. The Seat Pinpointer dropped my assigned seats and didn't assign me new ones.

After a call to Expedia, they confirmed my original seats with the airline, and they are supposed to confirm my seats in their system as well. Hopefully everything will go as planned from there.

If you have the option of changing your seats with the Expedia Seat Pinpointer use caution and take into account that you are putting your seat assignments at risk. You may find yourself without any confirmed seats, relegated to scattered seats assigned on the day of your flight at the airport.
