Look! It’s a Book!

It may be a far cry from finding buried treasure or hidden eggs, but if you want something infinitely more satisfying, then this site is for you. BookCrossing.com was a concept launched in Kansas, Missouri with the intent of making the whole world a library, and it’s working! As I’m writing this article, they have a membership list of over 145,757 people worldwide and almost 500,000 books are registered.

So how does it work?

Just follow the 3 R’s:

Read a good book.

Register it at www.bookcrossing.com along with your journal comments. You will then receive a unique BCID# (BookCrossing ID number) with which to label the book (the site explains how).

Release the book into the wild for someone else to read and enjoy! When someone comes across your book, they can log onto the site to record when and how they found it before passing it on. Stop by the website to learn more about how this free program works. It’s also a great way to get kids interested in reading. Have Fun!
