By Cynthia Kirkeby

If your child is suffering from cleft palate or lip, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic problems, or burns, please check into the Shriners Hospitals for Children. These hospitals supply care for the kids at no cost to the families. This is not only on a financial needs basis.

Here on some facts on the organization:

Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of 22 state-of-the-art pediatric hospitals:
  • 18 orthopaedic hospitals
  • 3 burn centers
  • 1 hospital providing care for orthopaedic, burn and spinal cord injury

Twenty hospitals throughout the United States and one each in Canada and Mexico make this a truly international hospital network.

Since 1922, Shriners Hospitals have treated more than 805,000 children from around the world, absolutely free of charge. We do not accept funding from insurance providers or government agencies, relying solely on the charitable efforts of the Shrine of North America and donations from the public. Our 2006 operating budget is $649 million.

If you know of a child Shriners Hospitals might be able to help, please call their toll-free patient referral line:
  • In the U.S.: 1-800-237-5055.
  • In Canada: 1-800-361-7256.
