People have been attempting various records on Mount Everest since the claimed summitting of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tensing Norgay in the 1950's. Take a look at some of the other firsts individuals now claim on the highest mountain in the world.
May 28, 1953 - First to Summit: Hillary and Torgay are the first to summit Mount Everest.

May 6, 1970 - The Man Who Skied Down Everest - The Man Who Fell Down Everest: Yuichirio Miura was the first person to attempt to ski down Mout Everest in 1970. He ended up falling 1320 feet and surviving.
May 16, 1975 - First Woman to Summit Everest: Leading an all woman team on Mount Everest, Junko Tabei became the first woman in the world to reach the summit of Mount Everest, after suviving a massive avalanche only 12 days before.

May 16, 1996 - Highest Helicopter Rescue - Madan "K. C." Khatri Chhetri rescued Beck Weathers and Makulu Gau near Camp I at approximately 20,000 feet (6,096 meters).

October 7, 2000 - Climber Skis Everest Nonstop: After completing his summit of Mount Everest, Davo Karnicar skied nonstop from the summit, 29,028 feet above sea level, to base camp at 17,500 feet. According to the Associated Press, Davo "made three stops on his way down: one to fix the camera on his helmet, one to meet other members of the climbing expedition and one before skiing down the Icefall – a journey under ice blocks that can unexpectedly break and fall at any time."

May 21, 2001 - First Blind Climber Summits Everest: Erik Weihenmayer summitted Everest with the National Federation of the Blind 2001 Everest Expedition with the largest group to ever summit the famous peak (19 climbers summitted on the same day).
